After all, there's already EXTRA_CPP_SOURCES, and we should be testing compatibility with C.

Whats the status of this now that we have importC?

I would argue this is not needed anymore since the compiler can already identify .c source files. Therefore, we can use EXTRA_SOURCES directly.
